    Why pledge?

Billions of pounds of produce go to waste just because it's not pretty enough. Selling 'ugly' fruits and vegetables at a discount is an easy way for Target to fight food waste and help customers. Show your support by pledging to spend if they do!

    More details:

Did you know the Americans throw out almost 25% of all fruits and vegetables before they even reach the grocery store (1). This happens in our country where nearly 45 million people live in food insecure households (2, 3). Not only is this a colossal waste, but it’s an injustice and there’s a pretty simple solution.

Food retailers like Target should start selling ugly fruits and vegetables.

That’s right, billions of pounds of fresh produce is thrown away every year because its not pretty enough (3).

Studies have shown that so-called “ugly produce” is every bit as nutritious as it beautiful counterparts, but no one gets to enjoy it.

Major stores like Walmart and Whole Foods have already started piloting programs to sell ugly produce at a discount thanks to Jordan Figueiredo and the @UglyFruitandVeg campaign (5, 6). And these programs have been a success! Walmart and Whole Foods get to sell a greater variety of food, making more money. The consumers gets to buy equally nutritious and tasty food for a lower price.

    It’s a win-win!

Target is one of the largest retailers in the country. If you believe Target should join the “ugly produce movement,” make a pledge today.
